Project Descriptions
This NIDDK biotechnology center will serve 37 faculty members from 4 US universities. Most of these investigators have been collaborators. These investigators are funded by a total
of over $16 million annually and the majority of their funding comes from NIDDK. The projects that will be supported by this center belong to one of the three major research areas
funded by NIDDK: diabetes, digestive and kidney diseases. We realize that the requested funding in this proposal will not be sufficient for comprehensive studies for all projects. Our
emphasis is to introduce this revolutionary technology to as many NIDDK investigators as possible so that the investigators can design more comprehensive experiments in future grant
applications. We consider the large number of projects and investigators within and outside of the Medical College of Georgia as strength of this proposal rather than a weakness.
